Inspiral Carpets are a British indie rock band from Oldam, Greater Manchester. Formed by schoolfriends, Graham Lambert and Stephen Holt in 1986 with a variety of other members. They hit the charts consistently with their brand of psychadelic punk pop in the late 80's and early 90s and were one of the forerunners of the whole Madchester scene. The band released a number of singles on their own label Cow Records before being signed to Mute Records with whom they had their first hit single 'This is How it Feels' and their debut album, 'Life' (1990) reached #2. The band were dropped by the label late 1994 and split in 1995, reforming in 2001 and touring sporadically 2008 sees the band reforming Cow records and the Return of the Cow tour.
