World Tour! Pah! Yeah, if you say so Brit!

Posted on November 26th, 2008 in music biz, pop, showbiz, artists news, music news by carly

newbritney.jpgBritney Spears has revealed that she will perform just two European dates on her supposed 2009 World Tour. The ‘Womanizer‘ star revealed on her website that she will play two dates at London’s O2 Arena on June 3rd and 4th 2009.

Hmmm, since when does a world tour include just two European dates? Especially if they’re both in London! Despite embarking on a much smaller European tour than anticipated, Britney fans are still expected to snap up the must-have tickets.

I for one will be at the front of the queue when tickets for Brit’s O2 shows go on sale on 5th December. I just hope the tickets don’t cost too much!

What do people think? Will anyone else be heading to the O2 for a night of poptastic cheese? Oh how we’ve missed you Brit!

Will Britney and Justin ever reunite?

Posted on November 11th, 2008 in music biz, showbiz, music news by carly

britneyandjustin.jpgThe Hollywood rumour mill went into overdrive last week after it was alleged that Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake would join Madonna onstage at LA’s Dodger’s Stadium on Thursday. Gossip sites were full of Brit and Justin reunion predictions and fans of the one-time couple were breathing a collective sigh of relief that after a six year break in communication, the pair were once again on speaking terms.

However, while both performers did indeed perform with the queen of pop, any predictions of the former couple performing together were wide of the mark. Britney was reportedly first to the stage and Justin is said to have joined Madonna only after Brit’s performance was over. While it’s nice to see these two pop starlets performing with Madonna, the packed audience - not to mention the selection of young Hollywood starlets in the front row - were eager to see a Britney and Justin reunion. However, it looks like those fans will have to wait a little longer.

While the show was no doubt impressive, why was there no Britney/Justin reunion? Ok, so the pair had a bitter break-up in 2002 (Britney is alleged to have cheated on Justin and JT retaliated by mocking Britney in his music video ‘Cry Me A River’) but seriously, get over it already! Britney has been married twice since - and also has two young boys - and Justin is currently embarking on his second long-term relationship since Britney so why all the childish behaviour? Seriously, Britney’s been to hell and back since her Mickey Mouse days so can’t they put this behind them already? I’m sure Britney could have done with an extra friend last year. So come on guys, put all the drama behind you and get back in the studio. Make a million teenage girls happy!

Are you ready for a Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan sitcom?

Posted on October 31st, 2008 in showbiz by carly

sitcom3.jpgRumours are flying around Hollywood that paparazzi favourites Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears and Paris Hilton are in talks to star in a sitcom together.

US TV network HBO, which brought us Sex and the City, are reportedly keen to sign up the blonde trio to appear as flatmates struggling to make it big in Hollywood.

Show chiefs are said to have approached Extras star Ricky Gervais and Desperate Housewives creator Mark Cherry to pen the script, which would see the trio playing characters inspired by themselves.

This could be interesting! The trio were close friends in 2006 and were often seen out on the party scene together. However, the girls grew apart in 2007 due to their personal crisis’ - drug and alcohol addiction for Lindsay, prison for Paris and a psychiatric ward for Britney.

Nevertheless, now that Lindsay has fallen in love, Paris is sober and Britney finally has her head in the right place, the timing couldn’t be better.

If the sitcom goes ahead then it certainly would make for entertaining viewing. And who cares if it’s not real? If millions of people can sit through ‘reality’ show The Hills each and every week then I’m sure this sitcom will be a huge hit.

What do you guys think? Will you be tuning in?

Deluxe albums - Friend or Foe?

Posted on October 23rd, 2008 in music biz, album news, artists news, music news by carly

lilwayneblog.jpgFollowing this week’s news that Lil Wayne will release a deluxe version of his sixth studio album Tha Carter III, I thought I’d delve further into deluxe albums and question whether they’re a friend or foe?

While Lil Wayne’s forthcoming deluxe album promises to offer fans five new songs, including I’m Me and Gossip, essentially the album is full of old material, material that fans have already bought. Therefore, is it really fair to ask them to purchase the whole album again just so they can own five bonus songs?

Sadly, Lil Wayne isn’t the only performer offering fans deluxe albums. Rihanna recently offered Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded, which lists three new singles including Take A Bow, If I Never See Your Face Again and Disturbia, while boyfriend Chris Brown released Exclusive: The Forever Edition, a deluxe edition of Exclusive which offers four new singles including Forever and Superhuman.

And it’s not just the American stars who are making money from deluxe albums, UK muscians are also getting in on the act. Welsh star Duffy will release her album Rockferry: Deluxe Edition on November 24th.

What are your thoughts on deluxe albums? Do they offer fans exclusive/bonus songs that wouldn’t otherwise be heard or are they simply a marketing ploy set out by records labels who are eager to milk an album for all it’s worth? Let us know your thoughts!
