In 1983, "Dancing With Myself" was released in the U. S. in an effort to introduce Idol to American audiences not yet as familiar with him. The music video was directed by Tobe Hooper, produced by Jeffrey Abelson, and conceptualised by Keith Williams. It was played in heavy rotation on MTV for six months. The "Dancing With Myself" video sparked a whole new era of feature film directors that would try their hand at directing music videos.
