During the summer of 2000, Ja Rule returned with his new album Rule 3:36, which was released on October 10, 2000. It featured the single "Put It On Me" which won him the Hip Hop Music Award Single of the Year. The album was ridiculed by critics for its commercial sound, which completely abandoned the dark street sound of his debut. Despite this, the album fared well on the charts and debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Charts. The album eventually became a huge success going 3 times Platinum.
