Sónar is a three day annual music festival held in Barcelona, Spain. It is described officially as a festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia Art. But really its all about the Music really. The festival runs for three days and nights, usually starting on a Thursday in the third week of June. It was the fourteenth annual Sonar festival 2007 that I was privilaged to go to. It began Thursday 14th June.
We arrived in Barcelona on the Wednesday planning to have a day to look around Barcelona and go to SonarThursday, Friday and Saturday. When we arrived we realised that there was so much goin on in the city, there was street performers and people playing music I even saw portable decks !!! There was an awesome vibe in the city and just how I like it loads of crazy techno heads with mad cloured hair and crazy clothes.
It was a massive event and it took over several huge venues throughout the city all full of national and international names from the world of electronic music DJs, VDJs and concerts from the broadest spectrum of dance music that were all on simultaneously in the different areas. How very exciting !!!!
Sónar by Night occupied an area of more than 10,000 meters, divided between covered and open-air spaces. Although it took place away from the centre of Barcelona, there were special coaches put in place to transport festival goers to the huge venue. It was brilliantly organised and even though there were thousands of people it was no problem and the wait wasn't long.
Here's a list of the Line-Up that we were able to choose between,
Alexander's Annexe (Feat Mira Calix), Altern8, Beastie Boys, Black Affair, Charles Hayward, Chris Clark, Cornelius, Dave Clarke, Devo, Digitalism, Dizzee Rascal, DJ Nu-Mark, Dorian, Emanon, Facto Delafé y Las Flores Azules, Fangoria, Fiblanda, Haswell & Hecker, Jeff Mills, Junior Boys, Khan of Finland, KTL, Mala Rodríguez, Mira Calix, Miss Kittin, Mogwai, Narod Niki, Nettle, New Young Pony Club, Planningtorock, Radio Slave, Rahzel & Dj Js-One, Romantica, Simian Mobile Disco, Timo Maas, Tristano + Murcof, Various Production and Wolf Eyes
If you get the chance to go I would thoroughly recommend, it not only for the music but also for the unforgettable vibe the festival creates!
