Rodrigo y Gabriela are mexican guitarists. They traveled to Dublin, where a friend offered them a place to stay. But when they arrived they found that their offer of hospitality had vanished. They didn´t speak English and had very little money. So they started busking on the streets of Dublin.
They soon developed a good reputation and met Damien Rice, who soon asked them to accompany him on tour. They released their debut record in 2003.One year later they released another album and their latest album was released in 2006.
Today I read that Robert Smith wrote one of the Cure's signature compositions, "Lovesong", as a wedding present to his wife. What a brilliant present!
He´s such a good lyricist. His songwriting for the band's early albums — particularly Faith, Pornography, and the later album Disintegration — centered around themes of depression, loneliness, and isolation. That´s why they had a "gothic" image.
But actually they are not truly goths, he has said that his songs do not convey how he feels all, or even most, of the time.
"At the time we wrote Disintegration...it's just about what I was doing really, how I felt. But I'm not like that all the time. That's the difficulty of writing songs that are a bit depressing. People think you're like that all the time, but I don't think that. I just usually write when I'm depressed."
He has written the so many good love songs like Friday I´m In Love,Lovesong,Just Like Heaven, Pictures of You (awesome lyrics).
Every time I hear them I have mixed feellings of happiness and melancholy.
Yesterday I was thinking about Coldplay.I think they are a great band, but their music is too depresing or mellow so I don´t think they will be as big as U2,Rolling Stones or bands like that.Chris Martin is a talented guy,but he's Mr. Melancholic.Leaders have to be positive, strong, like Bono,Mick Jagger,Anthony Kiedis and so many more.Even Nirvana.Kurt Cobain wasn´t the happiest person in this world, but somehow their performances were full of energy.Fans need to feel happiness or at least positive energy.
Depression is not sexy.I think the same about Radiohead.Maybe I´m wrong. It´s just my point of view.
The gig was awesome! Actually Gregory was playing in the 3º Muestra de Reggae Malagueño,so before him, some Spanish reggae bands played.
To avoid that,we arrived later,we just wanted to see Gregory.Anyway we had to hear two Spanish bands. The first one was bad,and the second one was ok.I know some Spanish bands that play reggae music quite well, but it wasn't the case.
Magic started when Jamacian musicians showed up.Live WYYA played six songs and they were really good. They know how to get the audience excited. Not only their music was good but also their dancing. After them K-Queens played. They are Jamaican twins. The show was good, specially the way they danced.
But the best one was Gregory. He's not the typical Jamaican guy who wears dreadlocks .He was wearing a black suit and a hat.He looked like an elegant gentleman. Some minutes before his show,it started to rain heavily and it didn't stop,so we were soaking wet,but we didn't care because we were having such a good time...
I liked watching the audience. Many men with dreadlocks,it's a special audience. There was a black guy, wearing a hat and beautiful African clothes standing next to me.So I asked him where he was from.He said that he was from Ghana and that his country was the first African country to get the independence and those were the clothes they wore the independence day.
My boyfriend who is not a big fan of reggae, was dancing all the time (since Jamaican musicians started to play),and I was happy to see him enjoying so much.Well, everybody was dancing because the music was so good...
Well,I'm excited because on Saturday I will go to Gregory Isaacs gig in Benalmádena (Spain). My boyfriend is not a big fan of reggae so I had to persuade him to go with me.But he's easy going so it wasn't hard work. After he said yes,we went to buy the tickets.
Gregory Isaacs is a legend. He plays Lovers rock which is a style of reggae music noted for its romantic sound and content. Check out this live performance playing Night nurse, his biggest hit.

Once I was asked Who is Nelson Mandela? He was an anti-apartheid activist and leader of the African National Congress. He spent 27 years in prison.Among opponents of apartheid in South Africa and internationally, he became a symbol of freedom and equality.
Radioheads’s Colin Greenwood has suggested the band could quit touring.
They discovered that comparing the band and the fans’ share of the total carbon dioxide output, moving from smaller amphitheatre venues shifts the fans share from 86 per-cent to 97 per-cent of total emissions.
The band pledged to ensure that future gigs are held in city centre to improve use of more efficient transport links and to reduce reliance on flights.
They’re asking fans to cut the amount of flights they take to gigs and to try raising average car occupancy to three per vehicle from the current 2.2.
It's really nice and important that such an important band like Radiohead worries about ecology. What do you think?
Roger Waters lost his inflatable pig during his performance at Coachella on 27th April.
Organisers are offering a $10,000 reward and four festival tickets for life in exchange for Waters' signature pig, which was seen floating away during his 'Dark Side Of The Moon' set at the three-day festival.
Anyone with information on the lost pig should email lostpig@coachella.com.
Well, good news for Coldpaly fans. They will play two free gigs in June, one in New York and one in London. And one in Barcelona!! They haven`t announced the date yet.
Chris Martin said "We're doing a concert in Madison Square Garden for free, which no one's ever done before because it costs, like, a million pounds to play there," he said. "We're paying for it because we want to be generous for a bit, before we're reminded that we have to get back to being on a record contract.
Yes,they are very generous with their fans.Other bands should imitate them. After all, fans made them famous.
Roger Waters closed out the final night of the Coachella Festival (April 27) by performing Pink Floyd's landmark 1973 album 'Dark Side Of The Moon' and unleashing a giant inflatable pig into the sky.
A large inflatable pig emerged onto the stage as he played 'Pigs' from 1977's 'Animals'. Graffiti scrawled on the pig said, "Don't be led to the slaughter" and "Obama" with checked ballot box next to it. It also contained illustrations of Uncle Sam holding a cleaver.
Even though he has unleashed the pig in many gigs,he always surprises the audience. Elaborate pyrotechnics and old video images livened up the set, which culminated with a pyramid containing a rainbow prism.
Roger Waters is an awesome musician, creator and lyricist. He's a musical genius.
The guitarist is going to donate two Gibson guitars and other items from his personal collection to the "Icons of Music" auction benefiting Music Rising, a charity he co-founded to replace musical equipment lost or destroyed by 2005's Hurricane Katrina.
"No one could ever come close to repaying the debt of those who have established this form (of music) that we all take totally for granted, this hybrid of European melody and African-American rhythm that's given us jazz and R&B and rock 'n' roll.
"There's something powerful about musicians giving instruments they own to an auction to aid musicians who are going through a particularly difficult time."
Music Rising has provided grants to replace instruments and equipment for 2,700 professional musicians and 50,000 students and church parishioners to date.
These are good news! Everytime I read this kind of news, the world seems to be less cruel.
I love Irish people cause they are special and this is the case.
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, the latest in the multimillion-selling franchise of video games that have changed the way fans and artists can interact. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith features more than forty songs. They include a healthy mix of the band’s hits.
The band’s fingerprints are all over Guitar Hero: Aerosmith: Steven Tyler did all of his own motion capture work (he even let them capture his facial and lip movements; the close-ups are uncannily awesome) and every guitar in the game is a digital version of an instrument the band actually uses (the Joe Perry character has a different guitar for each song in the game).
A friend of mine told me "Call me crazy, but for the amount of time wasted on this game, wouldn’t it be better spent actually picking up a real guitar and learning to play the songs for real?.Well,It's just a game and I like it.Many people are not interested in learning to play the guitar, they just want to have fun playing games.Actually I get bored with games, but this one is different and I'm thinking of buying it.
The Foxboro Hot Tubs – the current alias of Green Day – have made six new tracks available to download from Foxborohottubsdownload.com/
The six songs – 'Side B' from their EP, 'Stop Drop AQnd Roll!!! – are available to download for $5.49 (£3) now.
It's a good opportunity to have their latest stuff.
Billie Joe Armstrong explained that the name of the side-project comes "a place we used to sneak booze and chicks into late at night" near where he grew up.
The band are now expected to release album, also titled 'Stop Drop And Roll!!!, on vinyl and CD next month after it briefly appeared as a free download in December last year.
This is a tribute to the rock legend,14 years after his death.
Kurt's death shook the musical world.
He said "I listen to the music now and think we were a pretty cool band. But fuck, do I think that it's worth the 'legendary' status that people seem to believe in? No. It's just a band."
Bob Dylan has been awarded an honorary Pulitzer Prize at this year's New York ceremony. He became the first artist to receive this prize. He was cited for his "profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power".
The Pulitzer Prize is regarded in America as the highest national honour in print journalism, literary achievements and musical composition.
After leaving Velvet Revolver, Scott Weiland said that he will announce a full set of tour dates with his old band, Stone Temple Pilots, on April 7th.
I like Stone Temple Pilots because they made great music in the nineties.Scott Weiland has such a special voice...
Can´t wait to hear them again.Check out this classic! Plush, one of my favourites songs ever. These people are so talented that the unplugged version is awesome too.Click on the pic!

Coldplay’s fourth album, due out on June 17th, will be called Viva la Vida.
Chris Martin chose it after seeing the phrase, which means “long live life,” on a painting by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, who endured polio, a broken spine, and chronic pain for decades. “She went through a lot of pain, of course, and then she started a big painting in her house that said ‘Viva la Vida,’” says Martin. “I just loved the boldness of it.”I really like the choice because it's true.Frida Kahlo suffered so much, but she was always very optimistic apart from being a great painter.
Martin said thay are producing something different.Apparently the new tracks are rougher than older songs by them.
To honor Madonna’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Rolling Stone magazine asked their readers to post their favourite Material Girl songs. This is the list
1. “Like a Prayer” 2. “Ray of Light” 3. “Into the Groove” 4. “Vogue” 5. “Live to Tell” 6. “Frozen” 7. “Papa Don’t Preach” 8. “Don’t Tell Me” 9. “Borderline” 10. “Secret” 11. “Express Yourself” 12. “Hung Up” 13. “Like a Virgin” 14. “Holiday” 15. “La Isla Bonita” 16. “Crazy For You” 17. “Human Nature” 18. “Beautiful Stranger” 19. “Deeper and Deeper” 20. “Take A Bow” 21. “Music” 22. “Power of Goodbye” 23. “Rain” 24. “Justify My Love” 25. “I’ll Remember”
She might not have the greatest voice but I can’t think of a more influential female artist or a better performer, she’s a true icon.I respect her because she always did what she wanted. What's your list?
After long seven years,The Cure plays tonight in Madrid.Tickets are sold out. They will play three tracks from their upcoming album which will be released in May.I adore them.
U2 began the '80s as a virtually unknown "alternative" group and ended the century as one of the most widely followed rock bands in the world.
I love U2.I always remember what Chris Martin (Coldplay) said about them "What I love most about U2 is that the band is more important than any of their songs or albums. I love that they're best mates and have an integral role in one another's lives as friends. I love the way that they're not interchangeable -- if Larry Mullen Jr. wants to go scuba diving for a week, the rest of the band can't do a thing. U2 -- like Coldplay -- maintain that all songs that appear on their albums are credited to the band. And they are the only band that's been around for twenty five years with no member changes and no big splits."
Fortunately they are preparing a new album. The album name is unknown but according to Paul McGuinness (the manager) it will be released in October. The producers are Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois.
Well... we'll have to wait for some months.I can't wait!
This song Connected by Stereo MCs is meaningful to me.It reminds me when I was a teen, went out with my friends. We got so excited when we listened to this song!.
I didn't know anything about this band for a long time.Fortunately I got to know they released a new album in 2006.This song, Set It Off is from that album I love them!
I don’t know much about 1 Giant Leap but just found this video called Braided Hair which features Neneh Cherry and Speeches on vocals. It is very cool and was apparently one of the hugely successful tracks that came from the 1 Giant Leap project the other is My Culture which features Robbie Williams and is pretty well known at least I immediately recognised when I heard it.
1 Giant Leap was a concept band and media project created by Faithless founder Jamie Catto and Duncan Bridgeman.
Braided Hair was a collaboration between Speeches and Neneh Cherry, Speeches was originally from Arrested Development which is why I guess it sounds a little like their stuff with Neneh’s vocals as well it is really brilliant collaboration especially when I found out that the two artists never actually met during the making which is pretty amazing because it sounds so slick but I guess that is technology these days.
I want to express my happiness because Amy Winehouse won 5 Grammys (out of 6 nominations).
Record and Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album for Back to Black and Best Female Pop Vocal.
Natalie Cole said at the Sony BMG post-Grammy Awards party. “I think it sends the wrong message, that even in the midst of her stupor of drugs she can get nominated for all these awards."
I don't think so.She's talented and that's what Grammys are about: giving prizes to talented artists.
This awesome pic was taken by the talented photographer Annie Leibovitz.I saw a documentary on tv about her life and it was really fascinating.
About this pic she said "nobody wanted [Ono] on the cover". When Lennon insisted that both be on the cover I then tried to recreate the kissing scene from the Double Fantasy album cover, a picture that I loved. "What is interesting is she said she'd take her top off and I said, 'Leave everything on' ... not really preconceiving the picture at all. Then he curled up next to her and it was very, very strong. You couldn't help but feel that she was cold and he looked like he was clinging on to her... I shot some test Polaroids first and when I showed them to John and Yoko, John said, 'You've captured our relationship exactly. Promise me it'll be on the cover'. I looked him in the eye and we shook on it." She was the last person to professionally photograph John Lennon.
She was the chief photographer of Rolling Stone for several years. She also took that famous pic of pregnant Demi Moore.
Well,I love reading Rolling Stone.According to it,these are the best songs of the year (2007) 1) Roc Boys by Jay-Z 2) A Few Words in Defense of Our Country by Randy Newman 3) Umbrella by Rihanna 4) D.A.N.C.E. by Justice 5) Four Winds by Bright Eyes 6) Dough Is What I Got by Lil Wayne 7) Rehab By Amy Winehouse 8) Long Walk Home by Bruce Springsteen 9) Boyz by M.I.A 10) Int'l Players Anthem by UGK
The list goes on,but I think that's enough.I think the songs are good but Rehab is the best one.Amy Winehouse is different to everyone else."Amy is the best female vocalist I have ever heard in my entire career, as well as one of the best writers'"George Michael said.We hope she gets better.
I can't wait for Jack Johnson's new album to come out!.It will be released in February. It's called "Sleep Through The Static".The first single is "If I Had Eyes"
He has such a relax sound...
He's amazing and sounds great live.
If you like him, join his group! http://audiotube.com/network/group.php?group_id=56
Red Carpet Massacre is the 13th studio album by Duran Duran. It was released on November 19, 2007 in Europe, and on the 13th in the United States.
Most of the music on the current incarnation of the album was completed in late 2006 after the departure of band member Andy Taylor, when music producer Timbaland began working with the band.
The band decided to rewrite the whole album following Taylor's departure. 14 songs had been completed for Reportage but according to Simon le Bon: “When we sat down and listened to what we had done on our own, we didn’t feel we had a lead track, so we got in touch with Timbaland, who was the only producer out there that we knew we all liked."
I always liked Duran Duran and I also like this new cd.Besides Timbaland is a great producer, everything he makes is good.
This is what Elton John said about Eminem.I totally agree with him.
When Eminem and I did "Stan" at the Grammys in 2001, we got together to rehearse out in the Valley. We had never met or really spoken, so I was a little intimidated. When we started to do the song and Eminem made his entrance, I got goose bumps the likes of which I have not felt since I first saw Jimi Hendrix, Mick Jagger, James Brown and Aretha Franklin. Eminem was that good. I just thought, "Fuck, this man is amazing." There are very few performers who can grab you like that the first time -- only the greats.
Eminem is a true poet of his time, someone we'll be talking about for decades to come. He tells stories in such a powerful and distinctive way. As a lyricist, he's one of the best ever. Eminem does for his audience what Dylan did for his: He writes how he feels. His anger, vulnerability and humor come out. That's why we look forward to listening to Eminem's lyrics and finding out where the hell he's headed next.
Eminem lives, sleeps and breathes music -- he's a bit like me in that respect. He's pretty much of a recluse. I think he's enthralled with what he's doing; he's intimately involved with his art. There's a mystique about him -- you don't know much about him. That's so unusual in today's marketplace, where we know everything about every fucking person.
From the start, I've always admired Eminem's thinking. That's the reason I wanted to appear on the Grammys with him when I was asked, despite all the nonsense talked about his being homophobic and crap like that. Let the Boy Georges and the George Michaels of the world get up in a twist about it if they don't have the intelligence to see his intelligence.
Eminem has the balls to say what he feels and to make offensive things funny. That's very necessary today in America, with people being muzzled and irony becoming a lost art. Artists like Eminem who use their free speech to get a point across are vitally important. There just aren't many people in the world with balls that big and talent that awesome.
One day you are a normal person who lives a normal life (even though the definition of normal is very subjective).
Next day you become famous, you appear on tv,magazines, newspapers, internet and the whole world is talking about you. It's not easy to deal with such a change in your life, specially when you are very young.
Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse and many other artists are good examples of it.We see their scandals every day on the news.Is that the price of fame? What do you think?.
One of the best movies I've seen in 2007 is Walk the line.
It's about Johnny Cash's lifetime starring Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash and Reese Witherspoon as June Carter Cash (for which she won the 2005 Best Actress Oscar). It was a commercial success and rececived great critical acclaim. Both Phoenix and Witherspoon have won various other awards for their roles, including the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy and Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, respectively. They both performed their own vocals in the film, and Phoenix learned to play guitar for his role as Johnny Cash. Phoenix received the Grammy Award for his contributions to the Walk the Line soundtrack.
I had seen "The Doors" and "Sid and Nancy" which are also biographical movies about rock stars, they are really good movies but Walk the line is the best. The music, drama, writing and performances are great. And it has a happy ending.I love Johnny Cash music and after watching that movie,I like him more.
People are crazy about Enur.Who is he? Rune Reilly Kolsch, also known as Rune RK, Rune or Enur, is a record producer and DJ from Denmark.
Rune started producing music in 1995 alongside his half-brother Johannes Torpe, forming the group Artificial Funk. The pair achieved some notoriety by being signed to Skint Records in 2002. In 2003, Kolsch and Torpe, working under Rune's name, released the track "Calabria", an instrumental piece with a synthesized saxophone riff, on Credence, a sublabel of Parlophone Records.
In 2005 and 2006, Rune and Torpe founded two labels, ArtiFarti and Tattoorec.com. Following the remakes of "Calabria" by Drunkenmunky and Alex Gaudino, this one reaching #4 in the UK charts under the name "Destination Calabria", Rune and Torpe remade the track with new ragga vocals provided by Danish singer Natasja Saad, which peaked at #9 in France.
Unfortunately he has just made only one music video. You can watch it here http://audiotube.com/search/0/3169-enur.html
Premiere is an underground disco in Marbella (Spain) where you can hear the best music in town.Juan, the owner, is a guy who is really interested in promoting good quality music events. There are always free good concerts where many unknown (also famous) musicians can show their art. There are also resident and guest djs.Sergio Bastida (resident dj) is my favourite one,he plays mainly rock. It's almost the only place I enjoy going when I'm out. So,if you come to Marbella someday, I recommed it.
The more I hear the song "Crazy" the more I like it.Apart from being an excellent song it was also the biggest-selling single in the UK in 2006.
Gnarls Barkley is a duo formed by the multi- instrumentalist and producer Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) and rapper and Cee-Lo Green (Thomas Callaway). They became famous with the hit "Crazy" but they have many good songs like "Gone daddy gone", "Smiley faces" and "Who cares?". These talented artists won 2 Grammys this year. One for Best Alternative Performance ("Crazy") and Best Alternative Album ("St. Elsewhere").
They also have good sense of humour. They like appearing in costume. Depending on the song, they change the costume. For example, when they appeared as chefs in San Francisco, they opened with a cover of Duran Duran's "Hungry Like A Wolf"
If you want to get more information, you can visit their website www.gnarlsbarkely.com
I went to Sizzla concert on 20th July in Marbella.Though there were not many people (I expected that), it was great.
I had no idea who Sizzla was, till my landlord,Tommy lend me a cd.Tommy lives 6 months in Marbella and the rest of the year in the Caribbean Islands. So everytime he comes to Marbella, he brings good music.Sizzla's music impressed me.It's amazing how he can the register of his voice.
Who is he? He's a Jamaican dancehall musician. The rhythm in dancehall is much faster than in reggae, sometimes with drum machines replacing acoustic sets.He subscribes to the "Bobo Ashanti" branch of the Rastafari movement, known for its orthodoxy in terms of its stringent rejection of values associated with western culture and colonialism. Sizzla's songs speak to poverty and hopelessness that pervades young Jamaica and obviously oppressed youths worldwide. Like Bob Marley generations before him, Sizzla's message addresses social issues such as poverty, homelessness, police brutality, cultural pride and political and religious oppression.
Despite he is successful as a recording artist, he remains a mysterious figure, having little or no contact with the media. Though Sizzla remains popular with exceptional record sales, he does not support the music industry , believing it to be another corrupt and oppressing institution. Not wanting to be seen to endorse the industry, he is wary of any involvement with the press and promotion, granting only a few interviews to date. His rare live appearances are always sold out (Marbella was the exception).
I must admit that I hadn't paid too much attention to Amy Winehouse's music in the past. But I started listening to her music last week and I was really impressed. She sings so well!....and she's only 23.I wish I had her voice.
Since her rise to fame, she has been the subject of much media attention. She has admitted to having problems with eating disorders, self- harm and drugs. What I don´t like is that some mass media take advantage of her problems.Leave her alone! We all have problems, don't we?.Live and let live. "Life’s short - just do it. I’ve made a lot of mistakes.“I always say I don’t regret things and I don’t say sorry, but I do really. I believe strongly in fate. I believe that everything happens for a reason" Amy said.
I hope she stays safe, lives a normal life..... but meanwhile I will go on enjoying her awesome voice. And if you haven't listened to her yet, what are you waiting for?.
