Following universal acclaim in worldwide territories of the release for his latest studio album LOVERS AT THE GUN CLUB, Jackie Leven is once again on the road in the UK.
With a rattle bag of excellent new songs to sing and a host of riotous new stories to tell, one of the world’s few genuine troubadours will again be casting his unique spell.
Other musicians who played on GUN CLUB* will be turning up from time to time on the tour as their paths cross with that of Jackie, and random whisky tastings of Jackie’s own Islay blend of malts, LEVEN’S LAMENT (the lonely spirit of the glens) are promised. Therefore, appreciative clinks, cheers and tears, both mirthful and melancholy will be in good supply.
* Does not include Johnny Dowd, America’s number one ‘Country Noir’ singer, whose awesome vocals grace GUN CLUB, but does include multi-instrumentalist genius Michael Cosgrave, and Irish bass player Kevin Foster.
“Our greatest musical poet of loss, his songs keenly anatomising the slight but significant shifts of mood, memory and emotion from which we construct our personal histories.” – Independent live review ****
“Lovers at the Gun Club’s fretless bass and sophisticated lead guitar breaks teeter on the edge of stifling good taste, but the quality of the musicianship, Leven’s archly ambivalent lyrics and a voice so softly persuasive it sometimes sounds threatening tip the scale …This beautifully sequenced album defies the iPod shuffle, and listening to it is a cinematically satisfying experience.” – Sunday Times ****
“Leven has carved out an enviable solo career and this is the latest engrossing instalment … (his) poetic sensibility and deeply expressive voice are in peerless form throughout … Adventurous, ornate and joyfully unpredictable.” – Daily Mirror ****
“The songs are built around stylish folk-blues settings, from the fingerpicking that carries Olivier’s Blues to the languid folk-jazz touches imparting a Calexico flavour to The Dent in the Fender and the Wheel of Fate, and the blend of accordion, synth and electric sitar for the title track, on which guest vocalist Johnny Dowd applies his characteristic lurking menace.” – The Independent ****
“Scotland’s great storyteller in song” – The Sun ****
