He may have catapulted Leona Lewis and Jordin Sparks to superstardom but Simon Cowell’s music crown may soon be stolen by none other than Bolton’s ‘voluptuous’ Peter Kay.
Yes you heard us right. The curry loving, larger-than-life funny man will give Mr Botox a run for his money this Sunday when he premieres his eagerly anticipated one-off spoof ‘Britain’s Got The Pop Factor And Possibly A New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly On Ice.’ Tensions will be running high on the season finale of ‘Britain’s Got The Pop Factor And Possibly A New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly On Ice’ as Peter Kay and guests take to the stage for their chance to make music history. Unlike the X-Factor’s Simon Cowell, whose face is too frozen to sweat, the finalists will no doubt be dripping as the pressure and anticipation of becoming another music nobody (Steve Brookstein anyone?) becomes too much. The three finalists Geraldine McQueen, a plus sized solo signer played by Kay, R Wayne and 2 Up 2 Down – a four-piece band featuring Kay - will battle it out for the top spot while the show’s judges, including Pop Idol alumni Pete Waterman, Nicki Chapman and Neil Fox, will rate and slate each act. Talking exclusively to Audiotube about the show, Pete Waterman told us about his love for Peter Kay and revealed a few details about the spoof. “I always wanted to work with Peter Kay so I immediately thought yes (when asked to be a part of the show). I’ve always been a fan of Peter’s and more so now.” However, Pete wasn’t so quick to divulge too many details about the spoof, and judging by the show’s alleged guest line-up, we’re not surprised. While the likes of Jo Enright, Karl Lucas, David Hulston and Sian Foulkes star as a four piece band - in which Enright and Foulkes appear wheelchair bound, in an apparent nod to the number of sob stories told on talent shows today – musicians including The Kaiser Chiefs, Rick Astley and Sir Paul McCartney will take to the stage to dazzle the audience. When quizzed on McCartney’s role, Pete would only tell us that the Beatles legend appears alongside Geraldine, the lovely Michelle McManus lookalike. Also, when asked who his favourite act was, Pete would only state: “Geraldine – watch to see why!” The show, which has been written, created and produced by Peter Kay will mark Kay’s return to Channel 4 after a four year absence. Following on from the success of ‘That Peter Kay Thing’ and ‘Phoenix Nights’, Peter Kay’s ‘Britain’s Got The Pop Factor And Possibly A New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly On Ice’ is sure to be a huge hit. Despite the outrageous acts, the superstar billing and the never-ending laughter, Pete Waterman certainly isn’t tempted to join another real life reality TV show anytime soon. As he so finely put it: “It was a beautiful end to a wonderful romance.” Be sure not to miss it!
‘Britain’s Got The Pop Factor And Possibly A New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly On Ice’ will be shown on Channel 4 on October 12th at 8pm (Final) and 10.15pm GMT (Results). Audiotube Newsdesk October 10th
