Chase & Status Debut Album 'More Than Alot' Released |
Drum ‘n’ bass producers Chase & Status - Saul Milton and Will Kennard - have long been respected on the urban dance scene. Their work, such as drum ‘n’ bass anthems ‘Duppy Man’ and ‘The Druid’s EP’, has received great acclaim from the likes of Pendulum and Andy C.
After long spells in the UK Dance Charts (including two number ones) and a ‘Best Single’ BBC 1Xtra Drum & Bass Award in 2005, they began to accrue support from a wide broadcasting audience.
Now championed from all corners of the BBC Radio world, it feels as though there is a huge BBC broadcasting collective that wish to pick up Chase & Status and push them over into mainstream consciousness.
To date they’ve appeared as guest producers on Radio 1’s Essential Mix, been presented by Fabio ‘Live in Session’ at Madia Vale; and their single ‘Pieces’ recently made Scott Mills ‘song of the week’.
From BBC 1Xtra’s Ras Kwame to Radio 1’s Annie Nightingale... all the dj boys and girls at the BBC are talking about Saul and Will’s work.
With the forthcoming release of their long awaited debut album ‘More Than Alot’, there is a strong expectation that Chase & Status are set to be the biggest cross over act ever to come from the drum ‘n’ bass scene.
Over two years in the making ‘More Than Alot’ is reported to be a thrilling journey through UK urban music and incorporates music genres from soul to hip hop, and from ragga to electro dub step.
95% of the tracks include vocals, notably from rapper Kano and hip-hop artist Plan B. This along with the incorporation of so many other genres, will ensure its appeal to those not so enamoured with a pure undiluted drum ‘n’ bass sound.
For those more familiar with ‘Fighting Talk’ it will certainly entice the more middle ground to listen in when the likes of Colin Murray announce that their track ‘Smash TV’ (from the album) ‘is a tune’.
However the general drum ‘n’ bass loving public are also sure to be fans of 'More Than Alot' with the likes of Drowned in Sound claiming it to be “A mostly dynamic album, one that truly understands how people listen to music in 2008” and that it's sure to stand out “amongst the current mire of Drum 'n' Bass dirge currently overflowing our musical bath”
More Than Alot will be released on 13 October 2008.
Chase & Status were signed by Andy C to his Ram Records label in 2007.
“Basically us, blood and tears on a piece of vinyl” ... Saul Milton speaking about 'More Than Alot' with Annie Mac during a recent interview.
“To tell you the truth, I expected to hear, you know, a typical drum & bass sound, but they just came up with something different …” Kano on meeting with Chase & Satus to record tracks for 'More Than Alot'.
“Suitably brilliant” … Annie Mac on Chase & Status’s Essential Mix
